thanks for putting some light on this puzzle. As far as I remember I've read in one of the articles that the normal Q grind has been used for the XR, but the cams were not really identical to XL cams since the XR cylinders both have the inlet at the rear side, while XL Sportsters have the inlet of the rear cylinder at the front.
Some time later I got the '84 XR/XL Manual and copied both timings from that source into my table. I recognized that all the surrounding text in the XL chapter was identical to the XR chapter, but there were different lifts (0.005 & 0.05)and I really thought that 0.005 must be a typing error.
I will correct the table next time editing the Website.
