Supertrapp Heat Shields 5 Years, 2 Months ago

I have fitted a set of 2 into 2 stainless steel Supertrapps on my XR1000 and find that I keep burning my jeans on them (I have rear sets). My old mild steel Supertrapps had heat shields on them which stopped this. Did Supertrapp offer heat shields for their stainless pipes or am I going to have to fabricate a set?

In my catalogs the stainless-steel Supertrapp exhaust system is always shown without heatshields...

I have Supertrapps on my XR. Like I do on all my motorcycles, I had them Jet Hot coated inside and out - the outside coating not only protects the metal surface but I have NEVER burnt myself on them.a few minutes after a ride you can put your bare hand on the pipes at the header and they won't even be warm. Try it - it's worth the money, believe me.

Did you Jet Hot the Stainless exhaust? or the stock with "Supertipps" on them?

Yes, I Jet Hotted the stainless - their finish looks like stainless anyway except it never discolors, nicely enough, even at the first bend of the header. Alternatively I Jet Hotted the stainless header pipes of my Guzzi LeMans (I like V twins..) and had the header done by them in black. Still looks good ten years later.
Try it - I'll guarantee you'll like it. Oh, and by the way: I never replace pistons in any motor without getting them coated by Jet Hot either.
By the way - does anybody know where that XR guy with the pretty blue bike (2 into 1 exhaust, whitewalls) got his saddle?
