The stock part is useless and kind of ugly. After mine broke, I replaced it with one made from stainless steel rod (1/8 inch, I think). It was easy to make and the stainless polished up just like chrome. Someday I'll have the original part brazed back together just to keep the bike stock, but I'll probably never install it as the replacement part is an improvement in function and appearance.
