I'm planning on purchasing a 1984 xr1000. The original owner says it has problems fouling plugs, when idling. Is this a typical problem with the xr1000s? The owner claims that the del-orto carbs do not have idle mixture adjustments, but only idle stop adjustments. Is this the case?
I prefer to purchase an original bike from the original owner, but not if there are mechanical/performance problems. From the factory, do these models idle properly, and as far as performance, are there any dead spots, or hesistation problems? Although I have admired these bikes, for many years, I am not technically familiar with them. Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.
