I am new to the site and just starting to look around. I thought I would jump in and put in my first post.
I bought a 1984 XR-1000 about 4 years ago. The previous owner built it up as a show bike but has added some nice stuff.
38 mm Mikuni carbs
Supertrap exhaust
Crane HI-4 single fire racing ignition
Storz front end
PM brakes front & rear
18” PM wheels front & rear (I think they are PM)
The bike runs very well but due to a rear cylinder upper inlet push rod cover oil seal leak I have pulled the motor. With the motor out I am thinking about installing high compression pistons, “E” cams, and doing the clutch modifications listed in the Racing Bulletin.
My question is am I risking future failures if I do not do the bottom end modifications as well? I will not be racing the bike but like to rip it up on sunny days.
I am open to any advice, suggestions, or experiences that others have had with these modifications.
